Eldon Ray Peterson, age 85 of Stanton, died Thursday November 17, 2011 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. He was born October 12, 1926 at Pilger, Nebraska the son of Harvey and May (Nelson) Peterson. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith , at home, in 1933 by the Rev. K. Larsen. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger in 1951. Eldon attended Stanton County District #43 and Pilger High School. He was drafted, in 1945 and entered the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, OK. He also served at Fort Ord, CA; Fort Lawton, WA; and with the Occupation Forces at Camp Kerr at Nara, Japan. He was a Supply Sergeant with the 8th Artillery Division and was discharged at Camp Beale, CA in 1947.

After his military service he farmed with his family Northwest of Pilger. He married Leanna Siebrandt on September 5, 1948, the date of his parents' Silver Wedding Anniversary at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stanton. The newlyweds lived in Battle Creek, NE where Eldon was a Butcher for the Battle Creek Co-op. In the winter of 1949, Eldon and Leanna moved Northwest of Pilger, where they farmed for 42 years. Eldon also worked for Koehlmoos Hay Moving and Chopping, the Pilger Co-op and he was a line man for the Pleasant View Telephone Company. In 1991, they retired from farming and moved to Stanton. During his retirement he enjoyed working part time for Chamberlain Plumbing, Hankins Plumbing, Bill Dahlkoetter and with Bob Locke, where he helped care for the cemetery and dug graves.

Eldon was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Stanton, and Stanton V.F.W. Post #3602. He enjoyed learning new things, fishing, woodworking, auctions, visiting with people and coffee time at The Wolf's Den. He loved his family, spending time with Leanna, dogs, and children, esp teen-agers. He was a good friend to elderly people his entire life.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Leanna Peterson of Stanton; his son and wife Eldon Dale "Chip" and Marge Peterson of Cedar Rapids, IA; his daughter and husband Sandra and Gerald Kennedy of Pilger, NE; his brother and wife, Norman and Eva Peterson of Pilger, NE; his sister-in-law, LaNell Hille of Crowley, TX; 5 grandchildren Pamela Peterson, Dr. Kristie (Drew) Fisher; Paul Harvey (Chris) Peterson; Kate (Mark) Swinarski and Amy Kennedy. Also surviving 7 Great Granddaughters Lauren, Rachel, Kennedy, Taylor, Parker, Piper and Peyton; a special cousin, Larry Nelson of Pilger and Best Neighbors, Mark and Nancy Sonnenfelt of Stanton and a host of friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and May Peterson; his parents-in-law, Vic and Anne Siebrandt and Matilda Siebrandt; his brothers-in-law, Loren and Loring Siebrandt and Vernon Hille, and his sister-in-law Dorothy Siebrandt.

"In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Stanton Fire and Rescue or to St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Stanton."
