Barbara B. Arens, age 83 of Randolph, died Wednesday October 21, 2009 at her home in Randolph. Barb was born on January 13, 1926, to Frank and Mary (Mueller) Steffen at Constance. Barb grew up in the Constance and Crofton area. She attended St. Joseph Catholic school in Constance and graduated from Crofton High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for the Crofton Creamery and housekeeper for Father Otto Buehler in Constance. Barb married Irvin R. Arens on September 15, 1947 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Constance, NE. They farmed southwest of Crofton until 1955 when they moved to a farm north of Randolph, NE. After their retirement in 2001, they moved to Randolph. She was an active member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church including 50 year member of Christian Mothers, P.C.C.W. member, Ministry of Praise, Prayer Group, Eucharistic Minister, Pro Life director and past president of the Northcentral Deanery of Catholic Women, C.C.D. teacher, Norfolk Serra Club, active in the Randolph Senior Citizen Center and St. Frances Quilting group and Hospice care. Barb will be sadly missed and mourned by her best friend and husband of 62 years, Irvin Arens of Randolph and 8 children and their spouses: John and Sue Arens of Randolph; Steve and Jean Arens of Randolph; Arnie and Carla Arens of Omaha; Marcel and Janet Arens of Hartington; Joyce and Doyle Stevens of Crofton; Tom and Jobi Arens of Peoria, AZ; Julie and Mark Lewandowski of Overland Park, KS; Kevin and Kathy Arens of Lincoln, NE; 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is survived by her 3 sisters and spouses Adelaide and Joe DeBlauw of Yankton, SD; Sister Irma Steffen, O.S.F. of Omaha; Denelda Potts of Crofton; 1 Brother Victor and Hilaria Steffen of Hartington; Sister-In-Law: Dorothy Steffen of Yankton, SD.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters – Sister Antonelle Steffen, O.S.F.; Irene DeBlauw and her husband Tony; Clara Steffen; 2 Brothers Ralph Steffen and Clarence Steffen.

Interment: St. Frances Cemetery – Randolph, NE Minister: Rev. John Andrews Visitation: 3-8 P.M. Friday with 3 P.M. Christian Mothers Rosary and 7 P.M. Christian Wake Service all at St. Frances Church – Randolph; Johnson Funeral Home of Randolph in charge of arrangements.
