Alice Arlene Cisler, age 88 of Norfolk, died Tuesday September 8, 2009 at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton. Alice Arlene Cisler was born on September 18, 1920 to Axel and Lillian (Kingsley) Davidson on a farm southwest of Stanton. She was the oldest of five children and grew up in rural Stanton County. She completed grade school at District 9 and 34 and graduated from Stanton High School in May, 1938. She took normal school training in high school and upon graduation she taught rural school for three years at Districts 4 and 56 south of Stanton. Arlene was involved with the Scrooby Club (Youth Group) at the New England Congregational and Christian Church and was confirmed there on April 10, 1938.

On August 19, 1941 Arlene married Anton Cisler of Clarkson and they farmed in Stanton and Madison Counties until 1964 when they moved northeast of Norfolk and farmed there until 2008.

She was the president of the School Board of District 66 in Madison County for several years. She was on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska School Improvement Association which worked to improve rural education. After moving near Norfolk, she became a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Norfolk.

Her primary purpose in life was to provide a loving environment for her husband and four boys. She was known as a master gardener and had a green thumb for growing flowers and her vegetables. She loved cooking, baking, and was always very generous to share her delights with others. She truly enjoyed visiting with people and was a good listener. She remembered all of her family and friends with cards and letters for their birthdays and other special occasions. Her warm words of encouragement were welcome and sincere.

Arlene is survived by three sons, Terry (Barb) Cisler, Janesville, Wisconsin, Michael Cisler, Tampa, Florida, and Kirk (Karen) Cisler of O'Neill, Nebraska, four grandchildren, Todd and Laura Cisler of Janesville, WI, Kelly(Joe) Russell, Omaha, NE, Heath(Amy) Cisler, Fremont, NE and seven great grandchildren, Dirk, Jeremiah, McKinzie, Justis, Quentin, Abby, and Chloe. She is also survived by three brothers Axel (Elsie) Davidson Jr., Huntsville, Alabama, Donald (Jeanette) Davidson, Powell, Wyoming, and Jim (June) Davidson, Stanton, Nebraska, and one sister LaVonne (Dale) Schellpeper and many nieces and nephews, two sister-in-laws, Helen Pospichal, Clarkson, NE and Elby Cisler, Boise, ID.

She was preceded in death by her husband Anton, her son Kevin, her parents, Axel and Lillian Davidson and one great grandchild.

Arlene's philosophy of life is as follows: "I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

Memorials may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Norfolk, NE or to the Stanton Health Care Center.
