Anne Frances Kucera Stepan was born in Stanton County, Nebraska on November 24, 1921 to Frank V. and Anna Trojan Kucera. She grew up on the farm and some of her favorite pastimes included walking, reading, bird watching, gardening, sewing, and raising her family. She was united in marriage to James Stepan, Jr. on May 28, 1946 in Stanton Nebraska. During their marriage, Anne and Jim had four children, Janet Anne, Katherine Rose, Robert James, and James David.
Anne was challenged early on due to a very serious illness that had her hospitalized for 9 months in the years 1953 and 1954 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. During those 9 months her neighbors and family pitched in to take care of her first three tiny children. Her illness never got her down, according to those closest to her. She was always more concerned about others than herself. This is also true of her life after this life-event. Anne appreciated health and her life more than ever. She loved and was extremely proud of all her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She was a grandmother to the neighborhood children, and taught them how to bake bread, cook and sew. Her community of friends will also miss her as will those at the Stanton Health Center. They will say that she always had a friendly voice, and could cheer people up.
Anne is preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, her brothers James and Anton (in infancy), her sisters Rose and Mary (in infancy) and Peter Kazakoff (son-in-law). Her survivors include her sisters, Marie (John) Hajek, Frances Benson; daughters, Janet (Dale) Switzer, Katherine (Peter) Kazakoff, Robert (Margaret) Stepan, and James David (Debra) Stepan; grandchildren, Brandon Fosbinder, Jennifer (Douglas) Johnson, Dr. Caleb (Mykan White) Stepan, Elizabeth (Joe) Senus, Luke (Nicole) Stepan, Sara (fiancé: Luke Wilson) Stepan, Megan Kazakoff, and Michael Kazakoff. Great-grandchildren include Abigail and Noah Johnson, Gabriella and Isaac Stepan, and Mila Stepan.
