Walter "Pete" Scott, age 87 of Stanton, died Thursday March 26, 2009 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. He was born May 27, 1921 on a farm near Stanton, Nebraska the son of George and Francis (Priestly) Scott. Pete attended Stanton County District #51 near Stanton.
He worked on his father's farm until he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II from May 18, 1945 to December 17, 1946 with the Military Police. Following his time in of service he farmed. Pete met Bertha "Bert" Mandl and they married on October 26, 1950 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton. In the 1960's he started his own roofing company, for which he was best known for, working until 1994 when he retired.
He was very active in Stanton's V.F.W. Post #3602, he was a life member and served 50+ years on the Color Guard. Pete was very active in the Stanton Community. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, working in the yard and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Pete is survived by his wife Bertha "Bert" Scott of Stanton; 4 children Kathy and Dave McKinnis of Blair; Steve and Joyce Scott of Arlington, WA; Mike Scott and Fiance' Karan Kisner of Stanton; David and Kasey Scott of Blair; 10 grandchildren Jamie McKinnis and her Fiance' Orlando, Jeremy and Nicole McKinnis; Bobby McKinnis and Bryan McKinnis all of Blair; Cari and Leo Husser of Camino Island, WA and Ryan Scott of Arlington, WA; Megan Scott of Omaha; Chasity, Angelina and Bria Scott all of Blair and 4 Great Grandchildren – Isaac and Jacob and Ethan Smith of Blair, NE; Maddie Husser of Camino Island, WA.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
