Alice Cecelia Hunke, age 89 of Stanton, died Tuesday December 23, 2008 at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton. She was born September 7, 1919 at Schuyler, NE the daughter of Joseph and Nellie (Riley) Tully. She graduated from Schuyler High School in 1937.
Alice married Alfred Hunke on October 8, 1940 at Clyde Catholic Church of North Bend, NE. The couple farmed north of Howells for 3 years, farmed near Clarkson for a year, moved to farm south of Pilger from 1945 to 1953 and finally moved onto the Hunke's home farm place in 1953 where they farmed until 1982. In 1982 the couple retired and moved into Stanton. After her husband's death in 1996 she moved to Ivy Manor in Stanton and for the past 2 years has resided at Stanton Health Center. Alice enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton and former member of St. Henry's Catholic Church rural Howells. Alice is survived by her 2 children, Francis and Janet Hunke of Pilger; Margaret and Eldon "Chip" Peterson of Cedar Rapids, IA; 6 grandchildren, Tracey Nelson of Adams, NE; Troy Hunke of Omaha; Tami and Justin Kruse of Omaha; Pam and Rick Buss of Albuquerque, NM; Kristie and Drew Fisher of Cedar Rapids, IA; Paul and Chris Peterson of Willamette, IL; 12 Grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred who died on April 25, 1996; 2 brothers Joe and Jim Tully..
