Roland Jensen, age 76 of Pilger, passed away on Sunday December 21, 2008 at his home in Pilger. He was born on May 7, 1932 at Stanton County, Nebraska the son of Reuben and Helen (Oltmer) Jensen, Sr. and graduated from Pilger High School in 1949.

Roland entered military service with the Nebraska Army National Guard serving from October 4, 1951 to January 13, 1952, he continued serving with the Iowa Army National Guard from January 14, 1952 to April 17, 1952. Roland joined the United States Air Force on April 18, 1952 and served in Germany, Japan, Turkey and the United States as a Communications and Telecommunications Specialist. Roland married Kiyoko Irene Suizu on October 8, 1955 at Tokyo, Japan. A career member of the military, he retired on May 1, 1975 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He began a career of Civil Service with the United States Air Force from January 18, 1976 to January 3, 1995 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH as a Communications and Telecommunications manager.

Roland married Virgine (Brummond) Stuthman on December 12, 1998 at "The Oak's" Care Center in Wayne, NE and the couple made their home in Pilger. Roland was an avid tractor and antique car enthusiast. He enjoyed restoring all kinds of machinery and cars. Roland's memberships include SGI-USA Buddhist Organization in Omaha, board member of Historical Society of Stanton County, City of Pilger Housing Board, City of Pilger Tree Board, Stanton County Pioneer Cemetery Association, board of director of Pilger Senior Center, Member of the Norfolk Antique Auto Club, Life member of Stanton V.F.W. Post #3602, Life member of Air Force Association and Editor of the book "A History of Stanton County, Nebraska" published in 2008.

Roland is survived by his wife of 10 years, Virgine Jensen of Pilger; 1 Daughter Susan and Edward Kraus of Dayton, OH; 1 Son Robert Jensen of Annandale, VA; 2 Grandchildren Justin Kraus of Clayton, OH; Jennifer and Andy Beare of Hilliard, OH; 1 Great Granddaughter Rayna Kraus of Clayton, OH; 2 Stepsons Tony Stuthman and Fiance Lita Bridges and her children Jonathan and Raven Bridges of Norfolk; Terry Stuthman of Las Vegas, NV; 1 Step Granddaughter Katherine Stuthman of Norfolk; 2 Brothers Reuben, Jr. and Clara Jensen of Stanton; Raymond and Dorothy Jensen of Newhall, IA; 1 Sister Delores and William Kucera of Herrin, IL; many loved nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Kiyoko, 2 step granddaughters Jessica and Lydia Stuthman.
