Emma A. Hanel, age 88 of Stanton, died Sunday May 30, 2010 at Stanton Health Center in Stanton. She was born June 5, 1921 in Stanton County, Nebraska the daughter of Thomas and Rose (Tejkl) Karmann. She attended Stanton County rural school. Emma worked as a housekeeper for a few year in Stanton.
Emma married George Hanel on May 24, 1944 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton, NE. George was called to military service and Emma followed and lived at Camp Walters at Mineral Wells, Texas until he was deployed to serve over seas. Emma returned to Stanton and was employed by Esther and Leo Pilger as a housekeeper and as a store clerk at Farmers Union Store. When George returned from military duty the couple farmed in Stanton County until they retired in 1983, the couple moved into Stanton in 1984. Emma volunteered at many events for the Stanton V.F.W. and Auxiliary, St. Peter's Altar Society, Norfolk Veterans Home and Stanton Senior Citizens Center. Her hobbies include embroidery, baking, gardening, playing cards and especially spending time with her family.
Emma is survived by her 3 children Kenneth and Adeline Hanel of West Point; Mary Christ of Clarkson; Ronald and Jackie Hanel of Clarkson; 5 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; 1 Sister Lillian Morfeld of Stanton; 1 Brother William Karmann of Stanton; 1 Sister-In-Law Alice Hajek of Stanton.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, husband George on February 20, 1995; 1 son-in-law Wayne Christ.

Interment: Stanton Cemetery – Stanton, NE Visitation: 3-8 P.M. with 7:30 P.M. Rosary all Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church – Stanton; Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary – Stanton, NE is in charge of arrangements. Military Rites: none Officiating: Rev.
