God called Ray home on January 5, 2010 while residing at Colonial Manor of Randolph after a battle with cancer. Raymond A. Patent was born on September 12, 1931 on a farm west of Randolph to John Wilhelm and Marie (Hickey) Patent. He attended and graduated from Pierce County District #28 and later received his G.E.D.. In 1952 he entered service in the U.S. Army spending 18 months on Okinawa, Japan, he was discharged in August 1954.
Ray married Gladys Dowling on October 10, 1954 at the United Methodist Church in Randolph, they were blessed with two children, Kevin and Jane. Ray was employed by Roberts Hardware until 1956. Ray became Superintendent of the Randolph City Light Plant. In 1962 he established his own electrical business, Patent Electric in Randolph, and upon his retirement Ray passed his business to his son.
Ray was a Randolph Volunteer Fireman for 17 years, he was member of the Alvin Kessler V.F.W. Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113 of Randolph. He was past member of the Randolph City Council and a member of United Methodist Church in Randolph. Ray enjoyed collecting vintage cars and horse drawn buggies. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gladys Patent of Randolph; 2 children Kevin and Alice Patent of Randolph; Jane and Mike Lech of North Platte; 4 Grandchildren Andrew and Jonathan Patent of Omaha; Matthew and Jordan Lech of North Platte. 2 Sisters Loretta and Bill Hahn of Hartington; Julia Engdahl of Hurricane, UT; 2 brothers Johnnie and Geraldine Patent of Okeechobee, FL; Glen and Alta Mae Patent of Albany, OR; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson Ryan, 4 brothers, 2 sisters.
